Martin-Jan van Santen (1968) studied at The Art school Contantijn Huygens in Kampen, Holland. He moved to several other places in the country, but finally returned to his hometown Kampen, where he lives and works as an artist. Martin-Jan does a lot of portraits on commission. He loves to paint, and often let the paint itself play a role in the final result. His signature is always present and visible. Light and color are of major importance in his work, so we can call his style impressionism. The handling of the paint however, the 'big gesture' is more tending towards expressionism. All the paintings on this website are painted with oil on canvas or panel. The size of the paintings are mentioned with the title.
You can see, besides portraits, the 'free' works of the artist at www.martinjanvansanten.com.
